A Monthly Morning Journey Circle with Renee Baribeau

Another Direction When Going Deeper Isn’t the Medicine

The Equinox is a turning point. For one brief moment, light and darkness come into balance. Then the season changes direction.Nature does not question the turn. It does not cling to what was or insist on continuing along the same path. It responds to changing light, temperature, wind, and time. What if we could do the same?We are often taught that healing means going deeper.Find the root. Uncover the pattern. Understand what happened. Do more work. And sometimes that is exactly what is needed. But there are moments when continuing to dig keeps us circling the same territory.Sometimes the medicine isn’t deeper. It’s another direction.A river changes course. The wind shifts. Roots grow around stones. A fallen tree sends us along a path we might never have noticed otherwise. The Equinox invites us to stand at that threshold and ask:What am I still trying to push through that may be asking me to turn?In this September Journey Circle, we will use the energy of the Equinox to explore the difference between giving up and changing direction, between avoiding something difficult and recognizing that a particular path has given us all it can.Through teaching, shamanic journey, and practical reflection, we will listen for what may be quietly calling us toward another way.You do not have to solve everything before you move. You do not have to keep digging simply because you have already dug so far.Sometimes the obstacle is not asking to be conquered. It is showing you another direction.

Monthly Journey Circles FAQs

What is a Monthly Journey Circle?
Each month, Renee Baribeau, The Practical Shaman, gathers the community online for teaching, shamanic journey, reflection, and conversation around a timely theme. Every Circle is different, but each is designed to help you listen more deeply and bring what you discover into everyday life.

Do I need experience with shamanic journeying?
No. Beginners are welcome. Renee will guide you through the process and explain what you need to know before the journey begins.

What happens during a Journey Circle?
We begin with teaching and conversation around the month’s theme, followed by a guided shamanic journey or experiential practice. There is also time for reflection, sharing, and listening to the experiences of others.

Do I have to share?
No. You are welcome to participate in the way that feels right for you. Listening is an important part of Circle, too. We practice sharing from our own experience rather than giving advice or interpreting someone else’s journey.

What if I don’t “see” anything during the journey?
That’s completely fine. Shamanic information doesn’t always arrive visually. You may sense, hear, feel, remember, imagine, or simply know something. There is no single correct way to journey.

Why gather every month?
Transformation is rarely one dramatic breakthrough. Regular practice lets us notice patterns, deepen our listening, and recognize changes that might otherwise go unnoticed. The community also becomes part of the practice as we witness and support one another over time.

Do I need to attend every month?
No. Each Journey Circle stands on its own, so you can join whenever a theme speaks to you. Regular participation, however, offers the opportunity to deepen your practice and become part of an ongoing community.

Are the Circles live?
Yes. Monthly Journey Circles are offered live online, creating the experience of gathering together even when we are joining from different places.

What should I bring?
Bring a journal or notebook, something to write with, water, and a comfortable place where you can relax without interruption. Headphones can be helpful but aren’t required.

Is this therapy or a healing session?
No. Journey Circles are educational and spiritual gatherings. They are not a substitute for medical care, psychotherapy, or other professional treatment.

What is WindWork®?
WindWork® is Renee Baribeau’s nature-based system of practical shamanism. It uses the wisdom of wind, direction, nature, and direct spiritual experience to help us navigate change and bring spiritual practice into ordinary life.

How do I know what this month’s Circle is about?
Each month has a new theme inspired by the season, the natural world, and what Renee is observing in our individual and collective lives. You’ll find the current Circle and registration information on this page.

Who are these Circles for?
They are for anyone looking for a grounded spiritual practice, deeper connection with nature and Spirit, meaningful community, or simply a place to stop for a while and listen.

What if I’m not sure shamanism is for me?
Come curious. You don’t need to adopt a particular belief system or call yourself a shaman. The invitation is simply to experience the practice for yourself and discover what, if anything, it has to offer you.

I especially like ending with that last FAQ. It lowers the threshold considerably and reinforces that you are teaching people shamanic practices, not asking them to assume a spiritual identity.

"After just a month of Wind Work I was able to make a life changing decision that I had been dreading for years... the wind just took me on a spin and I never looked back. SInce that first leap I feel a peace and rest, my life will unfold with the help of the winds. I am in awe how strong this work is, in awe with what Renee and her assistants can teach by example. “I needed to learn about working with The Wind, and what Renee teaches. Reading the book, which I didn't just read, but continued and continue to go back over material to gain more, was nothing short of life-changing and transformational for me. Even from the start, as I began to incorporate what I was learning from the book, it was an experience likened to a new day dawning.”

"Your class and the wind work has made huge differences in my life. I am so honored to have learned from you and the wind. Since taking your class my life has shifted to abundance in a personal way and working with the north wind (and others) it has now shifted massively in the work way. We have a building in a location just blocks from the beach, we’re hiring people and creating a community of artists, we have an abundance of so many other opportunities opening to us. Our videos have gotten over a million views and we’re being interviewed by a magazine. I’m so in awe of just how magical this work is and I am so grateful for it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
